Best Places to Meet People

Best Places to Meet People by Will Hewlet

I know what everyone is thinking. You all think that I am going to say a bar is the best place to meet people. Not true! A bar is the best place to meet drunk people. Period. If you want to meet nice, friendly, non-drunk people, you have to go to other places. For instance, there are non drunk people at your job, right? If you work in a fairly large company, there are probably people you have not met, so go ahead and introduce yourself.
A little on the shy side? Consider a sports team as a way to break the ice. Sign up for the company softball team or agree to be an organizer for the next fun run. Not only will you be meeting people, you will be viewed as a real team player and that can come in handy when its time to do the next employee evaluations.

If you are self employed or work for a small company, then quit! But seriously, there are still places for you to meet people. Join a club or become active in your neighborhood's groups. Start visiting the local coffee shop, just to hang out. Force yourself to strike up a conversation with at least one person before you are allowed to head back home. Figure out what interests you and talk about it.

If money is not an issue for you, perhaps you could take a guided tour to a place that you have never been. Make sure that you do not get booked on to one of the happy couple type excursions, ask if the travel agent has any singles specific tours. If you do not connect with someone on the trip, at least you can start a conversation with the girl at the photo lab, right?

If you are a parent, get involved with activities at your child's school. Your kid may not like it, but you will be meeting all kinds of people. Can anybody say, soccer moms? If you are not a parent you could still volunteer at youth groups and such, but that might come off as a little creepy to some people, definitely not the impression you want to make on a potential date.

Honestly, you want to know where the best place to meet people is? Wherever there are people. If you are out shopping, go to the sections where your desired target would be. Looking for a woman? Head to the women's department, but do not stand there and watch her shop for a bra. Gee, do I ever hate that! If you are looking for a man, head to a man type section of the store. I once struck up a conversation with a man in the fishing lure section of a well known store. I will let you in on a little secret: I have not interest whatsoever in fishing, but it gave me a great opening line to work with.

Unless you are a hermit, you are surrounded by people at least part of each day. Smile sweetly and say good morning wherever you go. You never know, that might be just the opening that shy little cutie has been waiting for!

Cheap Holidays to The Gambia

Cheap Holidays to The Gambia by Dean Cruddace

Located on the west coast of Africa, The Gambia has long been popular with European visitors, especially British for a long time now, due to the relatively short flight and superb climate. It provides the perfect winter get away for people who wish to escape the poor weather. Rest and relaxation awaits, with the choice of small, friendly beach located hotels to 5 * luxury resorts. There is something to suit every budget. Fantastic beaches and a warm welcome awaits all visitors. No wonder the Gambia enjoys a large volume of visitors who return each year.
An ideal winter sun getaway, temperatures are high and rain is virtually unheard of from November right through to June. During the summer, brief but heavy showers transform The Gambia into a blaze of greens and tropical flowering trees, nevertheless it has grown in popularity with those looking for a tranquil alternative to the crowded resorts of Europe.

The Gambia is one of the smallest countries in Africa, situated on the unspoiled west coast on approximately the same latitude as Barbados. Mostly flat, the country is dominated by the majestic River Gambia from which it takes its name. A sub-tropical climate, fantastic culture, magnificent wide sandy beaches and some of the friendliest people on earth add up to a great holiday destination. The Gambia is not for everyone, as the pace of life is unhurried, but many people get hooked, returning year after year.

Many people think that The Gambia is a destination which is very much hotel based but this is not true. Although nowhere near as large and overdeveloped as you would find in somewhere like, The Canaries, most of the resorts do have a taxi rank, bank and exchange bureaus, telephone centre, supermarkets, craft market, bars and restaurants. The Gambia is generally busier in the winter months than the summer. All resorts are easily accessible and it only takes 20 minutes in a taxi to get from Banjul to Kololi so it is possible to stay in a quiet resort and easily get a taxi to a more lively one.

The liveliest resort is Kololi. The 'strip' as it is known locally, consists of a number of bars and a couple of nightclubs, busy with both locals and tourists. With over 30 restaurants serving a variety of cuisines plus 2 casinos, bank & exchange bureaus, internet cafes and shops. The resort is mainly relaxed during the day but comes to life on an evening through till the early hours.

Another resort popular with European guest is Kotu. This is a developing resort area with a cluster of new bars and restaurants, although it remains more low key than Kololi. There is a nightclub and a few beach barss. The beach is ideal for families as it is flat and sandy. There is also a golf course nearby.

The majority of visitors prefer to spend their days relaxing in the sun, however there are a wide variety of activities ranging from fishing to golf. Some hotels offer sports suchas tennis, volleyball, squash and table tennis. Deap sea fishing and whale watching trips can also be arranged by many hotels. Whether you just want to relax and do very little or be more adventurous and sample all that The Gambia has to offer, the choice is yours.

The Gambia's currency is the Dalasi. This can vary in value alot and is best obtained from the airport on arrival, your hotel, bank or bureau de change. Some restaurants and hotels do accept credit cards, the general rule is that it is not wise to rely on them.Debit cards are not accepted. It is in general advised to just use local currency.

The Gambia is just one of many countries where the risk of contracting malaria is very real but is avoidable provided adequate precautions are taken. We advise that you contact your GP before traveling who will prescribe the appropriate medication. Although no inoculations are compulsory for entry from the EU, anti-malerial tablets are recommended.

Best Places to Visit in Scotland

Best Places to Visit in Scotland by Paul scottyn

Scotland is full of great places to visit, from Edinburgh Castle to the ski resorts of the Highlands. Whether travelers are looking for peace and quiet or a hustling and bustling city, the country has something for everyone.

Outdoor Activities

Backpackers in Scotland seeking a taste of the great outdoors will find the country is home to some of the best walking and hiking trails in the UK. The Dalbeattie to Colvend Trail is particularly popular for a hiking break. The three-hour walk runs through the Dalbeattie Forest, which is home to a large population of Red Squirrels.

During the winter months, skiing is also a big draw and many Scotland hostels are bustling with travelers looking forward to hitting the slopes. Major ski centers in the country can be found at Glenshee, Glencoe, the Lecht, Nevis Range and Cairngorm.

Scotland is similarly well-known for its salmon fishing and travelers can learn how to hook one of their own with fishing lessons offered at many places such as Aviemore, Boat O Garten and Grantown.

Surfing is another great activity in Scotland, as it boasts some of the best surf spots in Europe. Good breaks can be found along the coats between Edinburgh and Eyemouth.

Culture and Heritage

Scotland has a wealth of cultural heritage sights, including the famous Rossyln Chapel which is located in Roslin, Midlothian. Founded in 1446, the chapel has had many famous visitors over the centuries from Mary, Queen of Scots and Queen Victoria to William Wordsworth and Sir Walter Scot. It was also featured in the Dan Brown novel, The Da Vinci Code.

Another significant Scottish landmark is Edinburgh Castle, built on the site of a dormant volcano. The castle was constructed in the 12th century by David I and was the birthplace of James VI of Scotland (and I of England). It's easily accessible from the many Edinburgh hostels located in the Old Town, with some accommodation even boasting views of the impressive castle.

Stirling Castle, meanwhile, played a crucial role in Scotland's history. Looming over the battlefield where William Wallace (famously played by Mel Gibson in Braveheart) defeated the English in 1297, the castle's Great Hall is the largest banquet hall ever built in Scotland.

The Neolithic village in Skara Brae, 31km north-west of Kirkwall, is also well worth a visit. It is one of the best preserved villages of this era in Western Europe and was only discovered after a storm uncovered it in 1850.

South Koreans Snap Up Canada Property

South Koreans Snap Up Canada Property by Les Calvert

The number of South Koreans buying homes in Canada doubled between June and July this year, and when figures are released for the final quarter a similar increases are expected.

Liam Bailey, chief market analyst for Property Abroad gave his views on the findings:

"Well, Canada has largely become the same as the U.S.; a buyer's market. The lack of developers with the facilities to give credit and loads of apartments unsold is bringing an abundance of bargain properties to the market. That combined with the weakening dollar against the strengthening Euro, and there are very few reasons for Sterling backed investors to pick up one of these bargains, of course with the view of buying-to-hold. Of course, cash-rich Korean's are only too willing and able to snap up Canadian property bargains during the credit-crunch, in the knowledge that they will make a big-profit, even if it takes several years to do so."

Property Abroad have some excellent Canadian properties, including many bargains throughout all the most popular regions of Canada. In Quebec there is a one acre land-plot for an astonishing £22,500, and on the resort voted best in Quebec 8 years running. The developer is offering a wide-range of pre-designed chalets to build on the plots, building cost is around $100 per sq ft. Construction has already begun on some of the plots, and there is a show-chalet available.

The Rouge River development -- on the resort by the same name -- is located on the breathtaking Laurentian Mountain range in Quebec. Buyers are automatically granted fishing rights to the 100-milles of trout-filled river weaving its way through the resort, as well as use of the 100-mile bicycle track running along its banks. The Rouge River resort is a great attraction, and when building is complete immediate growth should be at least 30% on plots and chalets.

Ice-fishing is possible in winter when the bicycle-track becomes a cross-country ski trail, which also weaves its way through the woods up the mountainside away from the river, which compliment perfectly the world-class Alpine ski slopes in Mt-Tremblant , just a 30-minutes drive away, and Montreal just 90 minutes. All this combines to give Rouge River properties incredible all-year-round rental potential, which when added to the low prices of the property compared to those surrounding it, translates to a rental yield of between 8 and 12% according to Liam Bailey.

Though the 2 bed chalet on Rouge River is currently the lowest priced Canada property on Property Abroad, they have many other properties that are currently priced far lower than they were last year, find out more by visiting the site.
